You probably know Cavalaire for its fine sandy beaches with crystal clear waters and its many water sports activities… But do you know its wild green hills?
Just a stone’s throw from the town centre is an area where nature is still unspoilt. So put on your shoes… and set off to discover the Mediterranean wilderness!
In the heart of the Maures coastline, there are several paths that will take you through the scrubland. In the Vallon du Fenouillet, you’ll be enchanted by the exotic atmosphere of a small stream that you’ll have to cross on several bridges. You’ll be amazed by the 180° views.
Before embarking on your adventure, check the fire risk map to see if the trails are open or closed due to drought and the risk of forest fires.
The Conservatoire du Littoral is a state agency
established in 1975. Its primary mission is to preserve
the French coastline, its flora and fauna, and to make these areas accessible to the public. It currently owns more than 213,000 hectares spread across 750 sites. Management of the land it has acquired is entrusted to official bodies (municipalities, departments, regions) or to associations. For example, the Jardin des Méditerranées in Le Rayol has been entrusted to the ADORA association, while the Domaine Foncin (15 ha) is managed by the municipality of Cavalaire.
As a bit of trivia, the Domaine de Foncin was the first donation made to the Conservatoire du Littoral.
There are apps that allow you to identify the different plants you will come across on your way.
Among many others, we can mention Google Lens, PlantNet…
