Do you like the landscapes of Var region, and particularly the nature of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez ? We propose to you to enjoy a wonderful excursion in Cavalaire sur Mer.
At the heart of the "Domaine Foncin", "Conservatoire du Littoral" ownership, we selected this tour especially for you. A 4.5 km loop between earth and sea. This excursion has got thousands natural treasures, breathtaking landscapes and meetings with unusual fauna and flora with aromas of garrigue, and the whole under the provencal sun. Better than an antidote against stress of everyday life and without side effects... except the desire to go back there as quickly as possible!
The tour begins from Bonporteau to get the "Maison Foncin" with lots of magnificent viewing points on Golden Islands. After passing the wild beach of Bonporteau, the littoral path winds along the rocky and indented coastline in the scrub. There's no doubt that it is one of the most beautiful excursion we can do in Cavalaire.
This excursion is varied, goes through unusual landscapes for a seaside resort. It does not pose any special difficulty, but it requires skill (and good shoes) because you'll have to walk along a little and narrow path bordering the sea and climb or go down.
So, equip yourself for walking and go on following instructions below.

Geographical localisation: Var 83, Cavalaire at the heart of the Gulf of St Tropez
Length: 1 h 55
Itinerary: a 4.55 km loop with a 119 m vertical drop
Starting point: Cavalaire, Chemin de Bonporteau L 43°10'01'' N et l 6°30'14'' E
Difficulty: Easy, sometimes narrow trail with ascending and descending hill
Compulsory equipment: walking shoes, water, sunscreen, cap and sunglasses in summer.
We start by going down the little path to access the Bonporteau beach. Then, you discover Eucalyptuses,Tamarisks and wild Washingtonia palm trees overseeing a wide fine sandy creek near rocks. If you don't know this little paradise, it really worth it, there's nothing like this!.
Our little advice: a picnic under the sun on the fine sand and bathing according to the season.

At a glance on information boards, start the Fenouillet path on the right. To do this loop wich passes along the littoral, take the way on the left following the boerds "By the see" ("Par la mer"). After climbing about 500 m, you arrive rapidly on a platform to admire the magnificent point of view on the capes and Golden Islands.

After this break full of beauties and fresh sea air, take the path which climbs behind you, turning rapidly on the left along the littoral. Admire diverse landscapes: breathtaking view on Golden Island, wild rocky inlets, crystal clear waters… A landscape which highlights the whole richness of mediterranean fauna and flora and its various colors according to the seasons: chênes verts, arbousiers en fleur, racines sauvages et roches dorées cohabitent avec une végétation verdoyante. Une table d’orientation est installée sur un second point de vue unique.
Après cette pause enivrante de beauté et d’air marin, empruntez le chemin qui monte derrière vous, en tournant rapidement à gauche pour suivre le littoral. Là vous ne manquerez pas de vous arrêter fréquemment pour admirer les paysages variés qui vous sont offerts : vue spectaculaire sur les Iles d’Or, criques sauvages, eaux transparentes, … Un paysage qui met en valeur toute la richesse de la faune et flore méditerranéenne et ses couleurs différentes selon les saisons : chênes verts, arbousiers en fleur, racines sauvages et roches dorées cohabitent avec une végétation verdoyante. Une table d’orientation est installée sur un second point de vue unique.
Rapidement, vous apercevez la Maison Foncin qui domine la colline. Cette maison fait partie du patrimoine de Cavalaire avec une histoire étonnante de don ayant pour objectif la préservation d’un domaine naturel unique.
Arrivé en haut, suivez les panneaux indiquant l’Oratoire « Estelle de la Mar » sur la gauche. Le sentier redescend pour contourner cette somptueuse bastide blanche par la côte jusqu’au portail.
A savoir : la Maison Foncin ouvre exceptionnellement ses portes lors des Journées Européennes du Patrimoine.
Vient alors le moment de redescendre. On découvre alors un chemin plus large qui met en valeur la végétation : pins et chênes verts, arbousiers, … . Une nouvelle table d’oriention à mi-chemin vous indique quelques compléments d’informations sur la faune et flore présentes sur le site.
